What is Leadership McLean County?
The mission of Leadership McLean County is to identify future leaders
and to facilitate a learning process that results in greater community
knowledge and awareness, valuable contacts and unique opportunities for
personal and professional growth. The program identifies emerging
community leaders and is designed to protect the tradition of strong
leadership for our community.
How do I become a member of the next Leadership McLean
County class?
Once applications are made available (June 2009), submit an application, along with letter of intent signed by your
employer to the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. You will receive an
interview opportunity, and then be notified of your application status.
What are the criteria to apply to Leadership
McLean County?
Participation in Leadership McLean County is open to individuals who
reside in or work in McLean County or who spend a majority of volunteer
time in the county, and are employed by an organization that is a member
of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. Participating in Leadership
McLean County will require a significant time commitment. In addition to
attending bi-weekly classes on Fridays between September and March,
participants are expected to: complete an in-depth group project and
presentation, devote personal time towards community service activities
and complete additional class assignments as assigned.
What is the application timeline?
Applications will be made available in May, 2008. Once
they are made available, you will be able to download a copy at
www.leadershipmcleancounty.org, or call the Chamber office at 829-6344
to receive an application. The application deadline will be July 7, 2008. Interviews
will begin July 21, 2008.
How much is tuition for the program?
Tuition cost for the program is $1000.
Tuition covers all costs associated
with the program, which include – but are not limited to - meals,
refreshments, buses, materials, and mailings.
Are scholarships available to help with the cost
of tuition?
Scholarships are awarded to those individuals who might not be able to
take on the full financial responsibility of the tuition. It is the goal
of LMC to strive for diversity of its class members in occupation, race,
gender, and other factors. We do not want the fee ($1000) to hinder
anyone from participating. However, it is the belief of the Leadership
McLean County Steering Committee that class members need to have some
personal financial responsibility for this program. Therefore, no
scholarship will be awarded for more than half of the tuition amount.
If an applicant is selected for the LMC Class of 2009, his/her scholarship
application will then be reviewed. Applicants will receive notification
of the scholarship at the same time at which they are notified of the
status of their selection into the Class.
I applied to Leadership McLean County in the past,
and was not accepted. If I apply again this year, will I
automatically be accepted?
No one is automatically accepted into the Leadership McLean County
program. Select applicants will receive an interview, which will
determine if they will be accepted into the program. Each interview is
scored based upon the same criteria, so all applicants are scored on the
same scale.
